There aren’t very many completely functional steam engine railways around these days but one of them is alive and doing well in Cedar Park, Texas in the heart of the Texas Hill country. Their vintage 1915 steam locomotive is out of service as of this writing but is expected to be back online soon. They are currently pulling their vintage cars by a 1960 diesel Alco engine while the steam engine is undergoing it’s second major restoration. All trains are running on regular schedules (weekends only) and all tickets are sold out for the next few weekends. Visit their website at http://www.austinsteamtrain.org/ for complete schedules and ticket information. Video below courtesy of KXAN TV Austin.
